Dear Group:
13-25 markers have been added for 30226 and 25377. 30226 kept his place in
group 2. 25377 was always a close match with 39347 and still is. I moved
them to their own group, 19, since they were pretty far from the rest in
group 7.
Now that more people are participating in DNA testing you may find that you
are matching a lot more people of different surnames, especially if your
haplotype is R1b. It is common for a Smith, Brown, Williams and Carter to
match on 25 markers and although it can be exciting to find a match,
remember that unless you suspect an out of wedlock event there is probably
no genealogical value to the match. It is very possible that you are
related before the use of surnames. However, if after comparing the
genealogy of the non-surname match you find that they were all living in the
same area, you may want to look for a connection. Widows remarried and if
their children were young they easily could have used their stepfathers
name. The mother could have died and the children were raised by the
mother's sister and adopted their uncle's name or there could have been an
unnamed father and the child used the mother's name. Don't want to be
pessimistic or to take the joy out of a match but just wanted to send a
little word of caution.
