Hi Judy and all Carter Group;
Just wondering if any of you might be able to help me with my Carter
lineage. I was very interested in Judy's email as I also have a William D. Carter!
I am wondering if her William D. Carter could have been related to my
William D. Carter of North Carolina/Tennessee?
My Carter lineage that I have been able to verify goes as:
William D. Carter born about 1829 in North Carolina (1850 United States
Census in Weakley County, Tennessee, District 14) He died 1869 in Weakley County
Tennessee and was buried at Mount Pelia Cemetery, Weakley County, Tennessee.
William married Mary Ann Lawler daughter of Martin Lawler and Nancy Ann
Davis. Mary Ann Lawler was born April 1, 1828 in Weakley County, Tennessee. She
died August 1858 in Weakley County, Tennessee and was buried in Mt. Pelia
Cemetery, Weakley County, Tennessee. William Carter and Mary Ann Lawler had the
following children:
1) James Martin Carter (my GGGrandfather) was born December 26, 1851
Weakley County Tennessee and died April 22, 1934 in Calloway County, Murray,
Kentucky. He is buried at Murray Cemetery, Murray, Calloway County Kentucky. James
Martin Carter married Sarah Lou Bailey they had a daughter Florence Pearl
Carter who married Alphonso Overby. Florence Carter and Alphonso Overby had
several children one being my grandfather Seth William Overby he married Minnie
Hope Castleberry.
2) William P. Carter was born February 28, 1854 in Weakley County Tennessee.
He died March 13, 1936 in Calloway County, Kentucky. He was married to Dora
Unknown.
3) Joseph B. Carter was born June 6, 1857 and died February 12, 1940.
Anyone that could help guide me to where I might be able to find my other
Carter family would so much be appreciated. I have been at a brick wall for
several years now and not giving up finding them!
Thank you all so much and especially Vicki who I have watched for a very
long time keeping things in order and working hard connecting all of us Carter's
together. Words can not express the gratitude that we all have for you.
