Martha:
I try to encourage others to share their family information both when they
join and at other times. Some may have very little to share, some just have
to take the time and since it is not a requirement to join the project to
share family information we may never receive it from others. I think some
who are tested are not genealogists and just get tested to see where they
fit in with other Carters. A match may make the genealogy bug bite!
When we started this project is was, and still is, open to all Carters. Some
surname groups do restrict members to those who can prove their ancestry.
We do not and will not ever require that.
When DNA testing first became available for genealogists there were many
that were apprehensive about sharing personal information about themselves
and how it could be tied to their DNA. In the last five years the testing is
more acceptable and people do see that the "junk" DNA tested has no
reflection on their personal traits.
I do have access to all email addresses so I can send an email to someone
you match and let them know you'd like to correspond with them. Just let me
know.

I am very interested in group 4b because that is the one that my
husband's
Carter cousin fits into. I have really enjoyed the great infomation on the
Carter cousins site and hope that other Carters will join but I find it
strange that when someone has the DNA test done that they don't post their
family tree that they know of and give us all a way to get in touch with
them in case we have questions. Maybe when the results are posted they
could be encouraged to do that. Also I think we can all see that only
having the 12 marker test done is not as helpful as it would be if everyone
would do as many markers as they can afford.
Kit 32390 for Charles Carter b 1757 in Virginia is the only one that has
posted their family info so we can tell how there match might work.
I feel hampered with not being able to share and correspond with the
others that are at lease close on the 12 marker test. What can we do to
help this.
Thanks for all the work you have put into the site. It is very helpful.

You are correct. Group 4a all have the same value on marker 439. Looking
at
it I probably could have split group 4 into 2 groups. The more I look at
this the more I see. The only way to know for sure if they are related is
if
they both share a common ancestor that they can find.
