Hi, Vickie,
What does "restricted to but not limited to" mean? I don't understand.
Hello, Carter list,
On my mother's side I am kin to the Carter's who moved from Virginia to
Oglethorpe County, Georgia in the early 1800's. Unfortunately I don't know any
Carter male relative to ask to take the Y-DNA test.
I believe I am descended from John Carter of Oglethorpe County, Georgia and
his first wife, Polly. His will dated 1838 is reported here.
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/oglethorpe/wills/c6360001.txt
His will lists three people believed to be his sons:
Wylie Carter
Paul Carter
Magnus Carter
I believe the William Carter and Thomas Carter [III] listed in his will were
his nephews by his brother, Thomas Carter [Jr.] and his wife Elizabeth. It
seems these Carter's had a habit of marrying their cousins. According to Mormon
Church records, John Carter's parents were Thomas Carter [Sr.] & Mary
Kilpatrick of Virginia.
If there is anyone here who has a connection to the Carter's of Oglethorpe
County, Georgia or has information on them, I would love to hear from you.
Thank you,
Cheryl
