Julie,
My grandfather Glenn Carter was a terrible individual. I do not think the
man knew how to say one word of truth. However, I have been VERY fortunate
in that my family saved pictures, documents and letters by the ton and that
is what I am going off of. However, I get to a point where, things get
fuzzy and so I stopped with Charles hoping that someone would come along and
help me to prove or disprove what I have done so far. Charles Carter in his
Rev War Pension File said that he was born in Essex Co, VA and then moved to
Chesterfield Co, VA before moving to KY. I have gone to both courthouses in
Essex and Chesterfield and am in the process of typing up all the documents
that I found in those two counties. So far everything I have done, does not
appear to be Charles Carter of 1757 (I think that was his date). So until I
finish typing all these many documents I won't be able to help much. I use
Legacy family tree and have thought that I might begin a special file just
for the Carter's I find in these documents and see if I can link them
together. There is a CHARLES and RACHEL CARTER whom I have some of the
documents typed up, but not proofed yet. Glenn's father (Albert Smith
Carter) seems to have been a descent man and so does his grandfather (James
B. Carter). His great grandfather, Green Carter was a Preacher and his gg
grandfather was Samuel Carter. This all came from family records and my
research. But it would have to be the wives of these men, who adopted a
child, or had an illegitimate child - thus I might not fit anywhere in the
Carter family at some point. Bottom line - there is more than one Charles
Carter in the counties that Charles (1757) says he comes from. Let's hope
that someone will come along and help us all some day.

As more Carters are tested the results will help sort the descendents. For
now since there are only 2 participants who show Charles as their
ancestor,
and their DNA does not match, several more descendents of Charles will
have
to be tested before it can be determined which are the descendents of
Charles. The one who ends up being "left out" will have to re-examine
their
research. Of course, their research may be perfect but there may have been
an out-of-wedlock event, such as the undocumented adoption. There also
could
have been a name change where the children took their mother's name.
I believe your Haplogroup is R1b1. Since R1b is the most common, along
with
it's subclades, it would be a good idea to upgrade to at least 25. The
members I have included in this group are not closely related. The only
way
to know for certain if they are related within a genealogical time frame
would be to upgrade their tests to 25 markers.
