Hi Julie et al
Ive recently been looking at Charles Carter, b 1707 (m Mary
Walker), for a connection to my son-in-laws MA line. His
DNA results for his son, Ian are No. 94232, Group 15, Hap
R1b1c.
While the DNA does not seem to come close to those published
to date, I was intrigued by the name of Charles Carters
daughter, Judith Walker Carter of King William County, VA.
She married William Burnet Brown who was born at Salem, MA.
and lived in VA. Both the Burnet and Brown families were
very involved in government and legal circles in
Massachusetts. The latter is recorded in Sidney Perleys
History of Salem, MA.
Ians ancestry traces down to Alexander Walker Carter b
c1794 at Gloucester, MA and who resided at Harrington, ME,
near the Canadian border. He named his first born daughter
Mary. The Walker middle name carries thru to Ians
gg-father, Elliot Walker Carter, b 1908 at Beverly, MA
Does anyone see a Carter relationship between Virginia and
Massachusetts? Could Gloucester, MA be an error and be
Gloucester, VA? Was this circumstance a result of some sort
of Tory movement toward Canada after the Revolution? Is this
Charles Carter related to that Charles born in 1757?
