Oh. I looked at the numerical results, and it seems that the numbers (and
not just the haplogroups) differ for the two people who say they are
descended from the same Charles Carter.
So - maybe one of the two is more descended from him than the other. Or
something.
Sorry if I'm just spreading confusion.

Subject: Charles Carter b. 1757 VA
Okay, now I'm confused.
I am trying to research this Charles Carter who was born in 1757 in VA,
because I think he's a genetic distance of 2 from my husband, based on what
I found at
ysearch.org (although the haplogroup there is listed as unknown).
So then I looked at the carter-cousins site and realized that there are two
Charles Carters listed, each with the same family tree, same birthdates and
birthplaces, same spouse name, and so on, but one is in haplogroup R1b1c6
(Group 4, like my husband) and the other is in haplogroup R1a.
Surely somebody messed up with the testing or something?
Maybe somebody can clue me in about this.
Thanks,
Julie
(My husband is descended from Solomon Carter, b. 1813 in Wilson Co. TN, son
of Frederick Carter, b. 1769 in VA, who married Nancy Jenkins. My husband's
haplogroup is R1b1c.)
