Cousin Jeff, the Aussie,
Note: When I say Aussie, I do so amiably. I hope there are no connotations
to the contrary. In fact while in Korea during 1952/53, there was an
Australian unit on our flank. A great bunch of guys who over a few pints taught me
the words to Waltzing Matilda - "Once a jolly swagman chanced by a
billabong, under the shade of a coolibah tree", and so on - you know the rest.
Enough reminiscing, to work. I am very interested in any info you have
about the Carters in England. It is my understanding that we are Welch. I
have in hand some material that reports John Pace, Sr having been born in
England, ca 1672, and having purchase land in Virginia (Middlesex County) in 1693.
He was the father of Mary Pace (born 1704), whose daughter Elizabeth (born
ca 1739) married Bernard Barnette Carter (born ca 1735). (This info in
available at website:

.
You mentioned Carter having come from around UK & Europe. I have
recently had a Y-DNA test. It shows those of my lineage began in Central Africa (we
all did), migrated to the Austria/Iran area, and from there to Eastern
Europe including UK. The test was done by FamilyTree DNA. There is also, Carter
Y-DNA (Vickie Carter Tallent, Project Administrator) that has a great deal
of Carter info.
All best wishes for a happy holiday,
Dave Carter
