Hello!
I descend from John Henry Carter, b abt 1795 in North Carolina, died after 1860 in Pike
County, Kentucky. He married Patience UNKNOWN, and came to Pike County from the
Washington/Tazewell County, Virginia area before 1850.
He may have been a brother of Frederick Carter, who came to Pike Co, KY by 1840. Frederick
married Sarah Epling 14 June 1835 in Cabell County, (West) Virginia.
I am hoping that a direct male descendant of one of these Carters has had Y DNA testing,
or is willing to do so.
Sons of John Henry Carter:
Charles Carter, m. Rhoda Smith, went to Wayne County, West Virginia
Quinton Carter, , d. 1863 during the Civil War, m. Hester Jones
Morgan Carter, d. aft. 1880 in Pike Co, KY, m. Mary Pinson
Henry Smith Carter, d. 26 June 1912 in Pike Co, KY, m. Rachel Charles
Sons of Frederick Carter:
Greenville Carter, born abt 1838 (he may have died without issue)
Noah Carter (AKA Noah Ratliff - he was born out of wedlock), d. 24 December 1913 in Pike
Co, KY, m. Elizabeth Jane Riley
A possible grandson of Frederick:
David Carter, born abt. 1841
Does anyone recognize any of these Carters? Based on some of the names this family used,
such as Charles, Morgan, and Greenville, it has been suggested that they belonged to the
line of Capt. Thomas Carter, but that is only a guess.
Thanks!
