If you are talking about the five Carter "patriots" so labeled by The
Carter Society of Virginia, then, yes, you need to look for some other
Carter immigrant. Three of those five have been confirmed by Y-DNA
triangulation and I have a strong suspicion on another one of the five and
the last of the five has "daughtered out".
Remember; DNA does not have surnames stamped on it. Surnames are a
tradition of our culture. Sometimes clues can be found by looking at
Y-DNA matches (or close matches) with other surnames. Y-DNA is passed
from *biological* father to *biological* son as a biological requirement.
It is only by cultural tradition that a *surname* is passed from
biological father to biological son.
