Jenny Terry was named as Jenny Terry in in St. Legere Landon Carter's will
in 1851 and she and her children were to be freed and he provided for this.
This Terry family was in Pennsylvania prior to the outbreak of the Civil
War. She was a female enslaved person in his household when the will was
written. I suspect Terry was her slave name. I do not believe a majority of
enslaved persons had formal recorded marriages while enslaved prior to the
emancipation by President Lincoln, although I am sure there may be
exceptions.

I have a NPE event. My Braswell cousins y-DNA test Riggs. The Riggs
were
in the same area and in fact my Boardvine Braswell's (b. 1799 NC)
brother-in-law is a Riggs. I'm looking at collateral families, families
in
the same location, etc. It has to have been an okay relationship because I
have not found any bastardly bonds. I'm new to this particular
discussion,
but could Terry be the wife's previous married name?
