I can attest the FTDNA Family Finder test DOES allow for matches down to 1 cM in size as
one of the report options. I am a satisfied customer and a volunteer FTDNA administrator.
As administrator I can see the FF tests and run results in my 5 DNA projects I
administer/co-administer as a result I have had contact with satisfied customers of both
companies. I have actually used both report generators for both Family Finder and 23andme
-- Not a scientific sampling and it is subjective I admit. That being said about 90
percent of genealogists test with FTDNA.... and the Carter-DNA project is aligned with
FTDNA. The two tests have different functions with 23andme having the medical reporting.
That is why I added the independent review link. You may want to both reports and it is
your $$.

Robert "Mike" Terry
Carter DNA project Co-administrator
"After reading through it, I'd have to say that the review linked at the bottom
appears to be rather biased in favor of Family Tree DNA (perhaps understandably, since the
person who wrote the review actually works with FTDNA). Not all the statements about
Relative Finder are accurate; for example, there's an "advanced" setting
that can look for matches down to 1 cM in size (as opposed to 7.5 cM for Family Finder).
This means that you can find much more distant cousins using the Relative Finder on
23andMe. There are probably more details about the differences between the two tests that
someone else could explain better. (Again, I have no relationship with either company
except as a satisfied customer.)" -- Kathryn Graehl <kagraehl(a)gmail.com>
