Hi Kathryn & All,
Kathryn I know we have talked in the past, and I probably didn't ever
explained my notes to you in detail.
First let me explain, that Chip, kit #15223 and my husband kit #14789 (I
just do the research) have done a 67 marker test and they are only off by 2
markers. (I believe they were fast mutating markers). A close match, but
the connection could be off by several generations. I had already
concentrated on the Wm.Carter/Mary Goodloe line before doing the DNA,
because of the close connections the 2 lines had.
The reason I have placed (in my gedcom) Bailey as a POSSIBLE son of Benjamin
(this is the reason I have a question mark next to Benjamin is I wasn't
sure) is because Bailey and Benjamin's son Churchill are very near each
other in some of the sources that I have found. But, Bailey is also close
in several sources to several Josephs, and Georges, etc. which are all of
the Wm. Carter/Mary Goodloe line. So, I had placed this statement as the
first thing you read under Bailey: "------We aren't sure how he lines up in
the William Carter & Mary Goodloe line, but the descendant of Bailey's DNA
(my hubby's Carter cousin), is a perfect match (well very close anyway) with
the descendant of William Carter's DNA (Chip Carter).
BUT, Chip and I have discussed this several times in the past. I do have a
handwritten copy of Benjamin's will (I got a handwritten copy because many
times the transcribed copies are wrong). Unfortunately Benjamin does not
mention a son named Bailey. Now, was Bailey a possible middle name?? I
have not found any evidence for that yet. But, since I feel that Bailey
lined up somewhere in the Wm. Carter/Mary Goodloe line, I had to place him
somewhere on my Gedcom to get him into that lineage. Bailey could very
well descend from one of the other children of Wm.Carter/Mary
Goodloe/Penelope Pew line, such as Wm. Carter Jr m/Dorcus; or George
Carter m/Elizabeth; or Joseph Carter m/Catherine Ammon. Or any other
surviving male child of Wm Carter/Mary Goodloe/Penelope Pew. I have
checked as much probate as I could locate on all of these male children,
with no mention of a Bailey.
I can't seem to locate much on Wm. Carter Jr. that married Dorcus, though.
I did find mention of a probable daughter, Dorcus Carter married John
Coffey:
Name: Dorcas Carter
Marriage 1 (abt 1758) John Coffey b: ABT 1733 in Essex County, VA
Children
Meredith Coffey b: ABT 1765 in Albemarle County, VA
Thomas Coffey b: ABT 1775
Sally Coffey b: ABT 1777
Jenny Coffey b: ABT 1779
Would LOVE to have lots of discussion about possibilities on this line.
This has been a difficult puzzle to finish, for sure!!!!
Any help is appreciated!! Thanks, Kathy Wells.

Dear Mike,
What do you think of the possibility that Bailey Carter is a son of this
same Benjamin? I think this idea came from Kathy Wells, whose husband is a
Bailey Carter descendant. I'm also a descendant of Bailey but through a
daughter, Jane, so there is no DNA from my line. All dates below are
approximate.
-------------
Bailey Carter b. 1742 in Spotsylvania?, Virginia. He married Nancy ? about
1764 and they had (perhaps) 9 children:
Henry (b. 1765) lived in Barren County, Kentucky (Is kit 14789 from a
descendant?)
Frances "Frankey" (b. 1768 VA - d. 1860 in Floyd Co., Kentucky) married
Rowland/Royland Salmons in 1795; 8 children
John (b. 1768-1770 - d. bef 1837 in Floyd, VA) m. Frances "Fanny"
McCutcheon in 1795
Nancy (b. 1769 - d. aft 1850) m. William Stinnett in 1789; they moved to
Pope County, Arkansas
Phoebe (b. 1776) m. Samuel McCutcheon in 1796
Jane (b. 8 May 1791 - d. 14 Aug 1851 in Pope County, Arkansas) m. Archibald
Hubbard Napier on 26 May 1808 in Montgomery County, Virginia.
According to the 1810 census there were two more daughters and a son, all
born before 1794; Jane may have been the youngest of Bailey's children.
Regards,
Kathryn
