I think adding this information to the Group name on the Y-DNA results would be confusing
in the cases where you have multiple wives or different surname matches in a group or
subgroup. You will note the Rose DNA project appears to have more cooperation from their
members and they have a very few blanks on the Most Distant Ancestor line. If you look at
the different pedigree listings where our Carter members have submitted pedigrees [See
link below] it should be obvious which families in their particular subgroups are related
and who might be the Most Recent Common Ancestor in that group. Again, this depends on how
active the DNA project members are. By listing a male family on a line on the Y-DNA
results group line you are inferring this is the patriarch for the Lineage Group. I
don't want to get into who or who should not be listed on that line. The Y-DNA and
the PROVEN pedigree is where the rubber meets the road. I think this change would open up
a can of worms for me as a project administrator.....
As FTDNA administrators, we do have a hidden place where we can add a very small note or
comment and we do have things like "This Group appears to be genetically related to
Robert "King" Carter family of Lancaster".
Only a small number of actual families who have DNA tested belong to this CARTER-DNA
discussion group. Some folks just don't like to get email from their administrators or
anyone else for that matter. So that is a continuing problem for the public Carter DNA
Project.

I do like this idea if at all possible. Thanks, Kathy.

Subject: [CARTER-DNA] Carter Y-DNA Groups
Hi, Mike,
Would it be possible to add more descriptive identifications to the group
headers in the Carter Surname Project like the way it has been done in the
Rose Surname Project?
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/rose/default.aspx?section=yresults
The following Carter men have all been confirmed by Y-DNA triangulation:
R1b-32 : Robert "King" Carter (wife 1 Judith Armistead, wife 2 Elizabeth
Landon)
R1b-04 : Capt. Thomas Carter, Jr. of Isle of Wight County, Virginia (wife
Magdalen Moore)
R1b-02 : Capt. Thomas Carter, Sr. "of Barford" of Lancaster County, Virginia
(wife Katherine Dale)
I-03 : Jacob Carter of Colleton County, South Carolina
R1b-01 : William Carter of Middlesex County, Virginia (wife 1 Penelope Pew,
wife 2 Mary Goodloe)
Q-01 : Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland County, Virginia (wife 1 Susanna
Merry)
Thanks.
