Ann,
Is this your Jasper Carter?
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=hagerj&...
This researcher has a Jasper Carter (b: Oct 1856 d: Aft 1910, married to Nancy J. Muncy)
going back to Thomas Carter of Rockingham County, North Carolina.
"Thomas Carter was living in Rockingham Co as early as 1782 when he received a grant
from the State of NC for 300 acres of land."
At one time, Kit # 20235 claimed to be from Thomas Carter "born 1746 in Maryland,
died 1843 in Rockingham County, NC". The Family Tree DNA website seems to be
"down for maintenance" at the moment so right now I can't check to see who
is listed for Kit # 20235.
I don't know if the two Thomas Carter's are the same person.

Ann,
Do you have a male Carter relative who would be willing to do the Y-DNA test if the money
was available?
Do you have other relatives who are descendants of Jasper Carter who might be willing to
chip in and help pay for a Y-DNA test Kit?
