Dear Helen,
With only the 12-marker test, you can't say much about a comparison to another kit.
Would it be possible for you to upgrade to at least 37 markers? This would give you an
opportunity to find an informative match.
Best,
Kathryn

Hi Holly,
I am a huge supporter of DNA for genealogy, as I have worked hard on my Mom's Carter
line since 1967, so have tons of paper trails,
and I can now see it all coming together in this and other lineages. I just wish I
understood the markers better and what it means if it is off by one marker..such as the
one below compared to my Carter line #134472:
Compared kit #134472 to kit #189663 - it is off from mine by 1 marker in value 391 -
Gayland Carter's kit has 10 and #189663 is 11
Does that meant we in no way connect??? Help me understand, Please. The excellent
genealogy done by Bill Murphy of North Carolina done in the 80's & 90's, took
my Duplin Co., NC line to New Bern Co., NC, back to Isle of Wight Co., VA and then back to
London, England.

("I1") going back to Thomas Carter of Isle of Wight County, Virginia?
("R1b1") then the RootsWeb database that you are looking at is obviously
incorrect. An "I1" is not going to be from an "R1b1" unless you have a
non-paternity event in your line.
