[CARTER-DNA] John Carter, Vintner of London, (1574-1630)
by Holly Carter Dunlap Georgia
I see Kit # 172256 in R1b-04 has "John Carter, Vintner of London, (1574-1630)" listed as Earliest Known Ancestor. This John Carter has been claimed as an ancestor by multiple Carter lines. I would be interested in knowing what documentation was provided by the researcher for Kit # 172256 that John Carter, Vintner of London really belongs to their line (R1b-04) and not to the Robert "King" Carter line (R1b-32) as many have claimed.
1) John "The Vintner" Carter (1630) has been claimed by some as the father of William Carter of Surry Co. VA (unknown Y-DNA) but this is disputed.
2) Some have claimed that William Carter of Surry Co. VA was the father of Capt. Thomas Carter of Isle of Wight Co. VA (R1b-04) but after reviewing the available information, I now think that claim is very premature.
I suspect that the claim to "John Carter, Vintner of London, (1574-1630)" made by Kit # 172256 may be due to the above two premature assumptions.
