Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Sorry,
Individuals are at differing levels in their family research so I should say that a pedigree chart/sheet is the same thing as an ancestor chart/sheet. There are many sites where you can get these forms on the internet.
Here is one....:
http://www.familytreemagazine.com/info/basicforms
The text option from the above link will give you the opportunity to download a Word file you can save to your own computer and fill in the information and view or print it out.
On your FTDNA personal page your surnames (last names) list should include those surnames on your ancestor chart which would be your pedigree... i.e. your related ancestors last names in your direct line for your mother and father and their parents, grandparents and so forth.

Yes,
You should list all surnames that would appear on a standard pedigree form or sheet starting with you for both your father and mother on your FTDNA personal page.

When you say surnames do you mean names that are not Carter names (i.e.
maiden names and ancestors). I have had great success with names other
than Carter. Should I list them all? Pam Carter Mendenhall

For those who have Y-DNA or Family Finder tested it is important to list
your surnames from your pedigree sheet on your personal page. Also, to
facilitate matches with others you should list a Most Distant ancestor also
found on your personal page.
If you need assistance with doing this please contact me.

There is an option in the Family Finder reports to choose to show Matches in
Common with you. This will only work if you have assigned someone a
relationship status and they have confirmed it. What I would suggest is for
everyone who shows as predicted 3rd cousin or below that you ASSIGN them at
least the status of Distant Cousin. If they confirm, then you can see their
matches in common with you. People don't understand this at so they don't
get the full value of the FTDNA database.
If someone says they don't know why you assigned them Distant Cousin, just
tell them that is the only way you can find hidden matches with others.
Just remember, if someone shows in your Family Finder list they ARE
genetically related to you.... and you may or may not have an identifiable
paper trail.

As soon as we have at least a 25 marker match I will remove the "Possible".

Subject: [CARTER-DNA] location of chester PA before 1814 Question
Perhaps someone could assist. I see Chester listed throughout many of the dna
listing for Carters, but not Chester PA. In my cenus research I find it listed
that the parents (unknown names) of my gggrandfather came from Chester PA (that
would be before 1814). Could that have been a different state?
Thanks for any info.
The dna tests have been interesting, but the y-dna test my cousin took showed no
Carters but many others. And, the family finder test I took found a few
remotes, but no similar names in the research. Thanks
Bette

Border Troubles Maryland and Pennsylvania
In 1749 York Co. was formed from Lancaster Co. PA
Up until 1725 this area was off limits....In 1730 this area was claimed by Maryland and Pennsylvania
Cresap sold Maryland patents to Germans....the Germans petitioned the PA government to get PA patents...there were violent incidents....Hendricks ends up in the Annapolis MD Jail ......
Cresap ends up in the Philadelphia PA Jail
Then Higginbotham started evicting German settlers, from the present day York Co., because they received PA patents.
Many years later the English courts jump in and settled in favor of PA.
Mason-Dixon Line did established proper border...in 1767......
Pam's, Thomas Carter was born 1748......; )
The Mason Dixon line designation put parts of Lancaster Co., PA into MD but
there was never a county of Lancaster in MD. Those areas just became part
of established MD. My research is primarily PA and MD and I have copies of
all the original land documents and county formations. No Lancaster Co. in
MD's history.... :)

The Maryland land grant for Lord Baltimore (Calvert) included parts of VA and PA ....
Example : Claiborne's (VA) war w/the Calvert (MD) over land boundaries. Off the top of my head...I think it was 1940 before VA and MD finally settled the states boundaries.....very likely there was a Lancaster MD.......
Another example that causes confusion.....The Town of Culpeper, Culpeper Co., Virginia, was once called Fairfax....the 1st post office in Culpeper was called Fairfax...so at one time VA. had... Fairfax Co. VA and Fairfax, Culpeper Co. VA.
Still digging,

I will continue my research but suggest we change the record to only
Maryland. I have a variety of dates for his birth from 1746 to1748
He married in is Halifax, Virginia and he died in 1843 in Rockingham County,
North Carolina. I also have a record showing a Thoma B. Carter b. 1746,
Maryland, died 1843 in Rockingham, Co. NC as a NC Veteran of the Revolution
My information came from Ancestry.com family tree (Henry Schneider) shows
Thomas Carter Birth 1748 in Lancaster County, Maryland, US and death 1843 in
Matrimony Creek, Rockingham, N.C.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your time and attention.

Hi everyone!
I am hoping that someone might recognize any of my family members and be
able to guide me to another direction. My Carter's don't match anyone, and
I truly don't understand DNA except that it will match me to other family
members. The following is my line as far as the paper trail goes, but the
DNA does not support it, so I don't know what to do.
Albert LaMonte - 1920 - 2011 - Kit No. 14437 b. & d. Oklahoma City, OK
Glenn Uhl Carter (aka Jack LaMonte) - 1888-1951 b. Page Co, IA, d. Orange
Co, CA
Albert Smith Carter - 1864 - 1931 b. Warrick Co, IN - d. Orange Co, CA
James B. Carter - 1836 - 1916 - b. Cumberland Co, KY, d. Minneapolis, MN
Green Carter - 1808 - 1843 - b. VA or KY - d. New Madrid Co, MO
Samuel Carter 1785-1829 b. Chesterfield Co, VA - d. Cumberland Co, KY
Charles Carter - 1757 -1839 b. Essex Co, VA - d. Cumberland Co, KY
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Margaret

Subject: [CARTER-DNA] Carter Y-DNA kit & mtDNA kit
The Carter pedigree in the Carter-DNA rootsweb site has my Carter cousin
with his Y-DNA tested Kit #134472 and my female mtDNA has tested for
Family Finder tested Kit # 128128. Our Carter ancestor puts us in the
R1b1b2 - RiB-04 Group for Carter. We descend from Thomas Carter I of Isle of
Wight County, Virginia. My Mom was born a Carter in Texas in 1916.
