[CARTER-DNA] "Paternal Ancestor Name" on chart
by Holly Carter Dunlap Georgia
I'm going to be off-line for a few days but before I head out the door I want to send this reminder about getting your "Paternal Ancestor Name" to display on the Family Tree DNA chart.
If you want your Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor to show up on the Family Tree DNA chart with your Kit Number, do this:
- Login to your Family Tree DNA Account.
- Go to "Plot Ancestral Locations" under "My Maps" on the left.
- Under the map of the world picture are fields for "Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor" and "Most Distant Known Maternal Ancestor". You can enter the names and (very) brief info there.
- Then check your Kit # on the chart again to be sure it is showing the way you want it to show.
Remember: Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor is for Y-DNA. Most Distant Known Maternal Ancestor is for mtDNA. If the mtDNA test wasn't done, you can skip the Maternal info.
Remember: The info should be entered for the person who gave the DNA sample, not for the researcher who sponsored the Kit.
The Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor is one "side" of the tree -- along the male-male-male-male line. The Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor is a male. The Most Distant Known Maternal Ancestor is the other "side" of the tree -- along the female-female-female-Donor line. The Most Distant Known Maternal Ancestor is a female. The Most Distant Known Maternal Ancestor is NOT the wife of the Most Distant Known Paternal Ancestor.
