Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I see from the notice that the family tree dna family finder test is on sale. Has anyone had this test done yet? Is it worth it and
how is it helpful in your research?
Thanks.

I'm not sure but I think this may be the line of Kit # 15223:
William Carter & Mary Goodloe
George Carter & Elizabeth Proctor

Churchill Carter, Jr. & Elizabeth Gaston
Theodore Wesley Carter & Rutha Matilda Williams of Chester County, South

Once again, Kit # 15223 is not a Y-DNA match with Kit # 49857. Both
claims cannot be correct. One line may have a secret adoption or other NPE but
both DNA Donors are not biological direct paternal line descendants of
George Carter son of William Carter of Middlesex Co VA. It's just not
biologically possible.

I wish I were still living in Middlesex Co., VA, as a friend of mine who owns the newspaper there with her husband, is a Carter descendant, her Carter ancestor is one of the founders at historic Christ Church in Lancaster Co., VA. She has donated many original Carter items to the Historic Christ Church, located at 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, VA 22576. The Foundation for Historic Christ Church, Inc., can also be reached at P. O. Box 24, Irvington, VA 22480-0024 - phone 804-438-6855, Perhaps she is more aware of the lineage of William Carter of Middlesex Co., VA. I do not want to give out her name, but if someone wants to call me I can tell you how to reach her or her son.

One line may have a secret adoption or other NPE but both DNA Donors are not biological direct paternal line descendants of George Carter son of William Carter of Middlesex Co VA. It's just not biologically possible.

I have moved Kit # 49857 Charles Carter b 1757 Essex Co VA to the permanent Lineage group R1b - 26 with Kit # 200260 and 205272 who have not listed an EKA (Earliest Known Ancestor)
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/carter/default.aspx?section=yresults
Robert "Mike" Terry
Carter DNA project Co-Administrator
I'm not sure but I think this may be the line of Kit # 15223:
William Carter & Mary Goodloe
George Carter & Elizabeth Proctor
Benjamin Carter & Mary Elizabeth Blakey
Churchill Carter, Sr. & Leah Elizabeth Moultrey
Churchill Carter, Jr. & Elizabeth Gaston
Theodore Wesley Carter & Rutha Matilda Williams of Chester County, South Carolina
Once again, Kit # 15223 is not a Y-DNA match with Kit # 49857. Both claims cannot be correct. One line may have a secret adoption or other NPE but both DNA Donors are not biological direct paternal line descendants of George Carter son of William Carter of Middlesex Co VA. It's just not biologically possible.

The Carter family I am researching has an, "I", haplogroup. I have been
unable to go back further then 1800. I'm back to Charles Carter SC on the
1800 census. This Charles Carter moved to TN by 1830.

NANCY,
I know we have talked several times, and once not long ago. Can you send me
a quick refresher, of your direct descent from Wm. Carter & Mary Goodloe.
I'm going to keep a separate file for these descendants of Wm. Carter & Mary
Goodloe/Pen. Pew lines, with the kit numbers if they have one, so I can
remember who descends from which children.
My hubby is the Bailey Carter descendant.
Thanks, Kathy Wells.

I am the Wm Carter/Mary Goodloe line. I just finally received
verification from DAR that my line through
Charles Carter of Chesterfield is approved. The family has been working
on this for many years.

Wm.Carter & Mary Goodloe's children Chip Carter #15223 descends from.
And
I see he doesn't have anything filled in where the 'Earliest Ancestor' is
supposed to be. So I just sent him an e-mail and asked him if he would
get
the information listed on there. Can't recall if it is Joseph Carter who
married Catherine Ammon or not?? Hope to hear back from him soon.
Thanks, Kathy.

According to what was previously posted, Kit # 30226 is from William Carter
and wife Mary Goodloe by their son Joseph Carter who married Catharine
Ammon. Does anyone know if Kit # 15223 is also from Joseph Carter &
Catharine Ammon?
Thank you.

Holly,
I will get back to you soon. I spent about two weeks in VA last year in
several libraries gathering documents.
My Charles Carter probably was from near Essex. The county line changed
several times according
to the county clerk.
I believe Charles' father was Henry Carter/Elizabeth Proctor and his dad
was George Carter/Elizabeth.
George was the son of William Carter/Mary.
I have documents to trace this line.
I maybe incorrect but I have a lot of documents. I have been working on
this line since 1970.

Nancy,
I think you were given bad information. I think you need to go back to
the person who gave you that information and tell them that the Y-DNA of the
Kit you sponsored (Kit 49857) is not a Y-DNA match with men who are
documented descendants of William Carter of Middlesex Co VA and his wife Mary
Goodloe.
Both claims cannot be correct. Do not accept claims at face value. Do
not be afraid to ask the question: Why do you believe that? Can your source
make a stronger claim than the claims made by Kits 30226 and 15223?
Kits 15223 and 30226 are a 25/25 match with each other. It is clear that
they do have a common direct paternal line ancestor in the not too distant
past. Of course the DNA can only say that they had a common ancestor. It
cannot say who that ancestor was.
Kit 49857 is only a 19/25 match with Kits 15223 and 30226. That is 6
changes out of 25. The common ancestor between Kit 49857 and the other two
probably lived a much longer time ago than when William Carter of Middlesex
was alive.
15223 R1b1a2 13 24 14 10 11-13 12 12 12 13 13 29 18 9-10 11 11 25 15 19 29

15-15-17-18
______________.__.__.__.__.__^__.__.__^__.__.__.__^_.__.__.__.__^__.__^__.__
.__.__^__.
The rule of Y-DNA triangulation is that you have to have matching Y-DNA
from descendants of two sons to confirm the father. This requirement has
been met with Kits 15223 and 30226.
In this case, the father is William. The two sons are George (Kit # 15223
emailed me off-list) and Joseph. The two descendants are Kits 15223 and
30226 and the two Kits are a Y-DNA match. We have Y-DNA triangulation back
to William Carter of Middlesex Co VA.
If anyone out there has information that disputes the claims made by Kits
15223 and 30226 to be from William of Middlesex, please share it with the
list. I have no personal interest in who is or isn't the correct
descendant. I just want to see the correct Y-DNA identified. I'm tired of seeing
incorrect information circulated all over the Internet. The last time I
checked, I counted 12 databases on RootWeb that claimed that the Thomas Carter
who was a son of William of Middlesex and his first wife, Penelope Pew, was
my Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland. I dispute that claim. My Thomas
Carter, Sr. was Y-DNA Haplogroup "Q". This is supported by four matching Kits
in the Family Tree DNA Carter Surname Project (from two different sons so
there is triangulation here also).
It is my position that Thomas Carter the son of William Carter of
Middlesex and Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland were two different men. The Y-DNA
information from Kits 15223 and 30226 supports my position. But, if the
Y-DNA from Kits 15223 and 30226 is not correct for William of Middlesex, how
can I say with confidence that William wasn't "Q"?
If you are going to claim that the Y-DNA information from Kits 15223 and
30226 that I am using to support my argument that there were two Thomas
Carter's is incorrect, I want to know why and "because someone told me" isn't
an acceptable answer.

Carter DNA Project Co-Coordinator
Nancy,
I think you were given bad information. I think you need to go back to the person who gave you that information and tell them that the Y-DNA of the Kit you sponsored (Kit 49857) is not a Y-DNA match with men who are documented descendants of William Carter of Middlesex Co VA and his wife Mary Goodloe.
Both claims cannot be correct. Do not accept claims at face value. Do not be afraid to ask the question: Why do you believe that? Can your source make a stronger claim than the claims made by Kits 30226 and 15223?
Kits 15223 and 30226 are a 25/25 match with each other. It is clear that they do have a common direct paternal line ancestor in the not too distant past. Of course the DNA can only say that they had a common ancestor. It cannot say who that ancestor was.
Kit 49857 is only a 19/25 match with Kits 15223 and 30226. That is 6 changes out of 25. The common ancestor between Kit 49857 and the other two probably lived a much longer time ago than when William Carter of Middlesex was alive.
15223 R1b1a2 13 24 14 10 11-13 12 12 12 13 13 29 18 9-10 11 11 25 15 19 29 15-15-16-17
30226 R1b1a2 13 24 14 10 11-13 12 12 12 13 13 29 18 9-10 11 11 25 15 19 29 15-15-16-17
49857 R1b1a2 13 24 14 10 11-15 12 12 10 13 13 29 17 9-10 11 11 24 15 20 28 15-15-17-18
______________.__.__.__.__.__^__.__.__^__.__.__.__^_.__.__.__.__^__.__^__.__.__.__^__.
The rule of Y-DNA triangulation is that you have to have matching Y-DNA from descendants of two sons to confirm the father. This requirement has been met with Kits 15223 and 30226.
In this case, the father is William. The two sons are George (Kit # 15223 emailed me off-list) and Joseph. The two descendants are Kits 15223 and 30226 and the two Kits are a Y-DNA match. We have Y-DNA triangulation back to William Carter of Middlesex Co VA.
If anyone out there has information that disputes the claims made by Kits 15223 and 30226 to be from William of Middlesex, please share it with the list. I have no personal interest in who is or isn't the correct descendant. I just want to see the correct Y-DNA identified. I'm tired of seeing incorrect information circulated all over the Internet. The last time I checked, I counted 12 databases on RootWeb that claimed that the Thomas Carter who was a son of William of Middlesex and his first wife, Penelope Pew, was my Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland. I dispute that claim. My Thomas Carter, Sr. was Y-DNA Haplogroup "Q". This is supported by four matching Kits in the Family Tree DNA Carter Surname Project (from two different sons so there is triangulation here also).
It is my position that Thomas Carter the son of William Carter of Middlesex and Thomas Carter, Sr. of Goochland were two different men. The Y-DNA information from Kits 15223 and 30226 supports my position. But, if the Y-DNA from Kits 15223 and 30226 is not correct for William of Middlesex, how can I say with confidence that William wasn't "Q"?
If you are going to claim that the Y-DNA information from Kits 15223 and 30226 that I am using to support my argument that there were two Thomas Carter's is incorrect, I want to know why and "because someone told me" isn't an acceptable answer.

I am the Wm Carter/Mary Goodloe line. I just finally received
verification from DAR that my line through

Once we lost the carter-cousins website, I don't think we have any Gedcoms

Thank you.

Thanks I see it now. I must have missed it the other times around. So far the dna testing hasn't helped with what I really wanted.... to find out further back than Phinaes Carter. Oh Well

During the period of time when there was a "change over" of leadership in this group --- My male cousin was test last spring, I provided the genealogy (oldest male and etc.) in summary form to "z-man" He got it said great. Then the website seem to die; I don't know if the kit is on the Carter dna site or if the information ever got there. I don't see it when clicking from Family finder dna to carter project. Help would be appreciated.
