That's wonderful Vickie! I do wish I could hook up with someone.
My William was born in VA 1795; possibly that part which is now WV since that is where he married (Lewis Co), lived and died. His sons were Robert Marshall, John H. and William L. Robert is my ancestor.
Mary
Interesting coincidence.... the names are the same as sons of my James
Carter. My James (b.1815, prob. NC) told the censustaker that his father
was born in VA (identity unknown). James named his first son William L.
(1837 TN) and his second son Robert M. (1841 MS). I don't know what the M
stands for in Robert's name, but I think the L in Wm's name is for
Lafayette. It is possible James had a son named John W. b.1839 who died in
1850, but I don't actually know for sure he was a son of James. James was
in Hardeman Co. TN at least in 1836, at which time he married Salina Dean.
He might somehow be related to the family of Jesse Carter of Hardeman Co.
TN. James went to MS about 1838 and to TX 1851, where he died.
Throwing this out there just in case...

Dear Group:
I'm not sure if you noticed but my dad doesn't match anyone who has been tested yet. I had faith though that one day in the future somebody would be tested who did.
Well, last night I received an email from the wife of a Carter who had been tested before we started our surname project. The reason she wrote is because their test matches my dad's exactly.
The best part is that their ancestor was from Virginia but living in Baltimore county, MD in 1880. My ancestors were probably from Virginia and were also in Baltimore county in 1880. The bad news is that she is having just as much trouble finding anything else about her Carters as I am. But misery loves company, and now I have a new friend and an extra set of eyes to help me search.
Without a DNA test we would have never met as neither of us has, of yet, the same person in our tree. But now she and I are more determined than ever to find the link. She will be adding her husband's result and tree to our site in the near future.
I have been on cloud nine all day!
Vickie
Dear Group:
I have added the test results for #20235 to the site tonight. No matches for this one.
We have a new member from Texas who read about our group in the Greene County, TN newsletter (from one of our fliers). He called me Sunday as he does not have internet access. He is related to Group #1 and there are several in that group have already been in touch with him. He has researched the Carters for 25 years and is a goldmine of information. If anyone would like his name, address and telephone number please let me know. I don't want to post it on the list but will email it to individuals.
