Have you tried to identify a marriage between a William CARSWELL and a Susan
HAGGART in the civil index that began in 1855. Simply look up both names in
each section for each year going back from 1877 and if the two appear with
the same registration number, you have probably found your ancestors'
marriage record. Order the certificate and it will take you back another
generation. It should also give you their ages when they married and you
will be able to calculate the year of their births. If that was also after
1855 you will be able to find their birth certificates as well, giving you
both their parents' names......assuming, of course, that the same procedure
was used for Scotland that was used for England since 1835. The LDS should
have the microfilms.
Good luck, Let me know hwat you find.
Bob Carswell, in Toronto.

I am trying to trace information of William Carswell, who was married to
Susan
Carswell, nee Haggart. They had a son, David, born 10th Feb 1877, in
Perth, Scotland, which I have the birth certificate of. William would be my
G/G/grandfather
