The plantation of Alexander Carswell and Isabella Brown was located not far
from Waynesboro. They came to Savannah in 1772 from Ireland and eventually
settled in Burke County. I have a sketch of the layout of the plantation that
I would be glad to fax. There is also a Carswell historical marker in front
of the Hopeful Baptist Church about this family which is not far from
Waynesboro. There are many Carswells buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in
Waynesboro as well as some behind the Hopeful Baptist Church. Also a Carswell
family cemetery where Alexander and Isabella are buried with many of their
ancestors.
