hello there..am a Cresswell on maternal side. The name goes back to France. The original
family was[and still is] in Northumberland. Part of the family broke off and settled in
the Dorset area. there is still a tower house in the town of Cresswell, Northumberland.
Coat of arms is in Burkes. An Alexander Cresswell[ 13thc.There was a Cresswell on the
ship with John Smith....have much info.. Also a book written by a 18th century ancestor
and a geneaology by a n ancestor from New York on the 1920's..Must pull out records...
Haven't looked at them in quite awhile.. Am fuzzy on the Dorset, shall check it.
There was also a Cresswell who marries the great-grand-daughter of Edward the fourth. by
his mistress. Elizabeth Lucy. Saw the 17th century book that it was entered in.. Very
ancient family....
