Dear Jayson,
It is thought that many Carswells originated
from Neilston Parish Renfrewshire Scotland , a few miles south of Glasgow.
They were certainly there when Timothy Pont was hand drawing the map of the
Barony of Renfrewshire in 1590 as the farms Karswell & Nether Carswell are
shown.
There were a few Carswells who moved to Ireland probably
during difficult times in Scotland. My family were all tenant farmers & I
have been able to go back to around 1717.
Below are a family of Carswell born in Ireland in Fauldshead
farm in Neilston Parish as shown in the 1841 census.
Fauldheads, Thomas Carswell 60 Farmer born Ireland
Jean Carswell 55 born Ireland.
Robert Carswell 23 born Renfrewshire.
Jean Carswell 20 "
Janet Carswell 18 "
Francis Carswell 15 Farmer "
David Reid 15 Ag. Lab. "
Do you have any dates when Andrew Carswell
emigrated? We may be able to do a look up on the LDS website.
Kind regards,
John Carswell.
