Matthew Carswel, b 1768, came over on the ship Elizabeth, in 1772. He was 4. Matthew
moved from Hepzibah, near Augusta, Ga, in 1805 to the Turkey Creek section of Wilkinson
County, Ga. This was land that was opened up from the treaty signed with the Creeks in
1803. He settled there and subsequent generations stayed in the area.
Matthew had this progeny:
John
Jane,
Nancy
Alexander V
James Brown
Samuel Martin
Sarah
Mathew Hutchinson
and my ancestor William Edward b 1807
I can not comment on the Robert James or James Robert.
Matthew was married to Sarah Martin
Matthew served as a school headmaster, a surveyor who laid out the route from Macon to
Savannah (pretty much the path for Interstate 16) and farmed.
