"bach." probably means that at the time of his wedding he was a
"bachelor."

To this date the oldest Carswell in my family line is Joseph Carswell.
Date of marriage April 16, 1786 Surrey County, England.
It notes Joseph was from the St Jas Dover bach. (no clue as to what the
last part
means) to Ann Hopper of the s sp.
Their son Joseph was born 1787 in England. I dont know the
location.
He served in the British Royal Navy as his father did. He was married to
Sophia
Elizabeth Machon on Jersey Channel Island. Had three
children..Joseph, Elizabeth Mary and William Carswell.
Im searching for any information on the elder Joseph and his wife Ann
Hopper.
Any information would be appreciated.
