Ellie,
Yes, World Families, the host of the Carson DNA project website, coordinates
directly with Family Tree DNA to upload results from participants, etc.
World Families doesn't actually do the testing. If you click on "order
test"
from the Carson DNA site, it takes you to Family Tree DNA to order a kit (I
understand there's a discount if ordered from that link).
One participant from another surname in my line used a different lab which
tested a few different markers in the mix, and that lab reported them in a
different order as well. He ended up an exact match on the markers tested by
that lab and FTDNA though comparing them required going marker by marker to
compare apples to apples.
From what I've seen, Family Tree DNA is by far the most widely
used among
Carson project participants and also on other surname projects in my
ancestry
lines.
Thanks,
Gary Carson

What is your husband's earliest known ancestor? I may have asked this
before...just curious.
Thanks,
Gary

We ordered a YDNA test kit for my husband but it came from Family Tree -
will the results still be part of this project? I believe I got the information
for this particular kit from Stephanie Carson Feldman.

If you're a male Carson (or have one you can find who descends from your
paternal Carson line) and descend from a line out of PA, VA, NC, TN, SC, I
encourage you to consider doing the YDNA test. By doing the test, I found matches
that helped me narrow down my Carson ancestry to a specific lineage showing
up in those areas. The Carson DNA project is at:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/carson/
You can view the DNA results (Results), family trees (Patriarchs), etc. To
order a DNA kit, go to Order Test.
