William and John Carson, sons of Walter and Agness Carson
...both went to NC. They were there by 1783
We have a letter written by his nephew Walter Maxwell
to William's brother John Carson, both of them in NC.
John settled in Rutherford Ct. NC.
Hello Josette, I did a quick lookup at my local library for you this weekend
and just haven't had time until now to post it. Here are the sources I
used, you may want to investigate them further for more detail:
1782 Rutherford Co. Tax List

1790 Rutherford Co. Census
Abstracts of Land Entries
1779-1795, 1795-183?

1783-1868
John Carson is on the tax list with 250 acres land, horses and cattle.
There is also a Walter Carson in the tax list. The census is broken down by
militia company, including these Carsons: John, Walter, Roger, Daniel.
The land entries show John Carson 15 Oct. 1783, 640 acres on French Broad
River near Sugar Loaf Mtn. There is a later entry for Walter Carson 10 Oct.
1787, 80 acres bordering John Carson Sr.! Also, two entries for William
Carson 10 Apr 1797, 50 acres and 12 Oct. 1797, 150 acres. Roger and Daniel
are present in both abstracts, though it looks like their land is in a
different region.
John Carson married Mary Withrow 2 Feb 1789, and Daniel Carson married Mary
Watson 7 Nov 1798 (a William Carson is indicated for bond). There are other
Carsons with later dates, including a Felix Carson marrying Polly Carson; I
didn't write them all down, but you may want to look into it, I think there
are ties to John's will.
Will: John Carson 19 Feb 1839 (signed Jno., an abbreviation that is also
found in the above records). Wife Mary; sons William P. Carson, George W.
Carson, Oliver P. Carson, James W. Carson; daughters Isabella C., Polly S.,
Jane, Sidney B., Mary (all married) and a mysterious "A.M." (note the
absence of the names Roger or Daniel).
There you have it, hope this generates some good leads for you and others!
