Fred, I almost hesitated to look up the non-Carsons, but I ended up finding

Good information on the Martins in Surry County. Aug 11, 1779 inventory of
estate of David Martin, deceased. Mar 7, 1783 sale by Salathiel Martin,
land on Yadkin River. Jul 4 1822, will of Obediah Martin, wife Winefred,
daughters Elizabeth and Tenisee (yes, that is how it was spelled), sons
David, William, Alfred. Also lists Mary as widow of David Martin. The 1790
and 1820 census both show Obediah. There is more information on Salathiel
and Obadiah/Obediah Martin in the Land Entrys and Lost Taxes, as well.
I found a record of Lindsay (different spelling) Carson, Sep 14, 1792 sale
of land in Iredell County, NC to Abner Harris. Lindsay is recorded as
living in Maddison Co., KY at the time. The Deed Abstracts also list other
Carsons including Andrew, Robert, and Thomas.
I found records in Rowan County for Sears, but little detail. The Tax Lists
include Christian and Richard Sears, and a John Sear who was taxed 1778 in
Capt. D. Smith's district.
Hope these little details help somewhere. I think the Martins had a fair
amount of land and it would be worthwhile to pursue records on them.
