m. Esther (Stubbs) Cloud 26 Jun 1752 Swedes Church Wilmington,
Deleware
- Esther Stubbs (Quaker) m. Joel Cloud 24 Sep 1741 Bradford
MM, Chester Ct. PA.
He died 15 Dec 1746, with Esther Cloud as
Administrator. Will of his father
probated 26 Feb 1747 establishes his daughter in law as
Hester Cloud, acknowledges
death of his son Joel and grandchildren David, Daniel and
Joel.
- Joel Cloud b. 1745 established in Wrightsboro Georgia
records as the son of Joel and
Esther Cloud (m. Hannah Pyle)
- children of Joel and Esther Cloud included David, Daniel
and Joel Cloud (identified
in grandfather's will) plus (unverified) Sarah and Martha
Cloud. Some children went
with Esther and John Carson to NC while others came
later. Daniel and David are
reported to have remained in NC when the Carsons moved to
Georgia (unverified).
o a Stubbs researcher says that Esther Cloud was John
Carson's second wife; that he had
sons Samuel and Joseph with a first wife. Unable to find
the source of information but it
is a reasonable presumption given that Esther Stubbs
was born at least by 1721 to have
married Joe CLoud by 1741
o Esther Carson 16 d 11 mo. 1752 is noted in the Bradford MM
PA records as having sued
someone, in 1753 as having acknowledged being married by a
Priest. In 1753 she was
disowned. There is a note in the Bradford MM records of
Esther Carson leaving with her
two children for Cane Creek NC (in Orange Ct. NC) without
a date. .
o 1761 Jul 11 land grant 337 acres Biggs Creek (waters of
Eno) land grant
- warrant to John Stubbs 16 May 1757 640 acres on
Bigg Creek adjacent to William
Combs entered 5 Mar 1757, assigned to John Carson
surveyed 5 Dec 1757. A group
of Quakers left Chester Ct. PA for the Eno River
valley near Hillsborough NC in
1754, among them John Stubbs and, obviously, John
Carson who married Esther
(Stubbs) Cloud. John Carson is not a registered
Quaker at Cane Creek nor in PA.
Many of the Quakers moved from NC to Wrightsboro
GA circa 1768.
- second survey 10 Jul 1760 660 acres n.e. fork of
New Hope joins land of George
Martin, George Herndon and William Roberts
o there is a sale of land from John Carson to Daniel Cloud
of 337 acres Oct 25, l768 in
Orange county
- there is a tract of 450 acres identified as
Carson's land on Carson's Creek
Wrightsboro recorded in the British Public Record
Office as part of the land grant to
the Quakers of NC.
- there is an Orange Ct. NC deed 15 Jul 1769 of
Joseph Maddlock mentioning the land
of John Carson and Eno Quaker meeting house
- Esther Carson got a certificate from Cane Creek MM
NC to Bush River MM in SC
(to which the Wrightsboro GA Quakers belonged
until their meeting was authorized)
2nd day, 6th month 1773 and a second certificate
3rd day 2nd month 1775 because
first was lost.
