Letters of William Carson York Ct. establish his family:
Will: Probated 1 Jul 1811
Wife Susanna
CDR: Samuel (eldest)
William
Mary
Jean
Robert
Francis
Susanna (m. Martin)
Martha (Marthew)
Rebecca (died young)
Letter establishes William Carson d. 1811 as son of Samuel Carson m. Jane
Patterson Chester Ct. PA
and that his brother in law Walter Carson (who is identified in Samuel
Carson's will in CHester Ct. as
having married his daughter Mary Carson by 1766) is also living in York Ct.
SC in 1789
So - two of the Carsons are identifyable early on (Walter and William).
John Carson who settled in Rutherford Ct. NC at end of or after the Rev War
is identified as having first
gone to York SC in Rev War papers of Walter Carson, his son, who migrated
to Indiana as having
migrated to York SC in the fall of 1779 which is consistent with his father
having sold land in
Adams Ct. PA in 1779. So, the Early John Carson in York (land 1776) can't
be this John. The son of his son (Gen. John Carson of
Rutherford) writing in 1821 refers to having visited Walter Carson in York
SC and says that they are well. Gen. was writing
to his brother Walter Carson who had migrated to Indiana. THis suggests
some type of family iink.
There is a letter from Gen. John Ruherford to his brother Walter in Indiana
written in 1816 that refers
to "our relations in York....Walter and Robert Carsons" (The Robert could
be the son of William and
Susannah and most probably is because there is only one RObert Carson in
York SC in the 1810
Census; Walter, the son of Walter m. Mary Carson - but there is a Walter
Carson Sn. and a Walter Carson
Jr. in York in 1810).. THis would suggest that the William Carson
of York, SC (son of Samuel Carson m. Jane Patterson of Chester Ct.PA), the
Walter Carson who married
William's sister Mary Carson by 1766, and John Carson (son of Walter and
Agness Carson who
resided in CHester Ct. PA 1729-1737 then moved to Adams Ct. PA) were related.
ANyone have any other documents/records add? Can anyone identify any of
the other Early Carsons?
