A Robert A. Carson, son of James Carson dec'd 1806 Orange NC, was possibly
Robert Alexander Carson based on the theory that James was the son of
Alexander Carson dec'd 1775 Orange NC (Alexander's will mentions sons John,
James,
Alexander and Samuel).
Alexander and Andrew are by far the most common names in the Carson line's
prior to 1800. Later, names include Alfred, Ambrose and Archibald.

Do you know what the A is for in Robert A

either Andrew (after his grandfather) or
Allison (the maiden name of his

I think Robert Carson was Robert A., not Robert
Return, as I said in my earlier message (I
plead
old age); his son was named Robert Return,
known
as Return and sometimes as R.R. I have been
told
that was a common name for boys born after
their
fathers returned from war.
