CROWN POINT — James C. Carson , 68, of Wolcott Road in Crown Point, N.Y., passed away at
Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt., on Aug. 17, 2001.
He was born Oct. 13, 1932, in Mineville, N.Y., the son of Gordon and Alice (Chiott)
Carson.
He graduated from Moriah High School in 1950 and served in the Korean War for two years
with the Tank Company, Second Battalion.
In 1959, he graduated from Brockport State Teacher’s College and completed his graduate
work at Plattsburgh State College. Upon his graduation, he taught at Ichabod Crane Central
School in Valatie, N.Y., for seven years.
In 1966 he relocated to Crown Point to begin teaching. While at Crown Point Central
School, he served in several capacities as physical education instructor, guidance
counselor and interim principal. Along with these duties, he coached several sports
including soccer, basketball and baseball. For years his summers were spent at Fort Crown
Point, where he served as lifeguard and swimming instructor and was also a swimming
instructor for the Crown Point Youth Commission.
Upon his retirement in 1992, he began serving on the Crown Point Board of Education as
president and at the time of his death, he was serving as vice president. He was a member
of the Crown Point Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan (Edwards) Carson; his daughter and
son-in-law, Julie and Randy Clarke of Norwich, N.Y.; three grandchildren (whom he adored),
Christopher James Clarke of Proctor, Vt., Carrie Ann Clarke and her fiancé, James Cushman
of Proctor, Vt., and Kenneth Jon Clarke of Page, Arizona; his brothers, Ronald Carson of
Georgia and Lowell Carson of Maine; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Leola Boynton and Shirley Allen.
There will be no calling hours and funeral services will be private at the convenience of
the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
