ELMER CARSON FATALLY SHOT
June 12, 1908
A telegram was received on Sunday evening by S.K. Carson and daughter of
this city, announcing the death of the former's youngest son, Elmer. The
telegram read, "Elmer accidentally shot himself at five yesterday; died at
four this morning. Funeral arrangements not made. ---Nellie Carson," dated
June 7.
In addition to his young widow and two small children, deceased is
survived by his father, Samuel K. Carson, of this city; two brothers, Ira and
John, and two sisters, Mrs. I.A. Humberd and Nellie Carson, who resides with her
father in this city.
The bereaved relatives have the deepest sympathy of their many friends in
their sorrow. Word received this morning states that Elmer was hunting, had
shot a rabbit and, thinking he would have to shoot again, cocked his rifle.
When he got up to the rabbit he struck it with the gun, which exploded,
the shot entering his body just above the ribs.
[Doesn't sound like Elmer was the brightest candle in candelabra.
Furthermore, that is just barely more believable than he accidentally shot himself
(or someone else) five times. Clearly this man was a democrat, probably
closely related to John Kerry.]
