Hi all,
I've been peeking around just a bit in Cocke County, TN again, looking
for reasons my Alfred Queen may have been there in 1840 and 1850. Also
looking at some old notes from Bonnie Queen Roberts of Cosby, TN.
Bonnie's father was Theodore Queen, g. grandson of the Carsons. Here's
the links, I think:
Rev. B. N. Queen (b. 5-6-1831) m. Mary Catherine Carson (b. 3-4-1831) in
1855
..son, Rev Askew (Ascue) Carson Queen
....son, Leon Theodore Davidson Queen
......dau, Bonnie Queen( b. 9-28-1904) m. Maynard G. Roberts
..........Corrections to above data, if any, are welcomed.
William (b. ca 1802) and Lydia Crawford Carson of Willets community
..dau, Mary Catherine Carson (b. 3-4-1831) m. Rev. B. N. Queen
..dau, Easter Carson (b. ca 1833)
Info from Bonnie Queen Roberts for "Over the Misty Blue Hills" by Ruth
Webb O'Dell include: "The Carson family came to Cocke County (TN) from
Jackson County, N. C., in the early 1800's. Two of the daughters of the
family came along, one was Esther Carson. They settled in the Carson
Springs area, hence the name."
Other info, the land was "entered by the ancestor of Jennie St. Clair
Carson, who later married a Felkner."
Per "Cocke County, Tennessee, And Its People" here's the scoop on Carson
Springs: It...."was once a popular resort in our county, and there was
a large hotel where folks retreated to escape summer's heat and drink
the spring water. The Carsons received the land grant for this area in
1816".
Obviously, the "Easter" Carson (b. ca 1833) could not have been the
"Esther" Carson if Esther arrived with family ca 1816.
Can anyone take me back one generation from William Carson who m. Lydia
Crawford? Or, can someone identify this "Esther" Carson who would have
been born prior to 1816? Or, Jennie St. Clair Carson Felkner? Okay.
If ya'll can, will y'all?
Thanks,
Gene
