My late husband, Winfred Lee Carson, Jr., has a DNA R1b1a2. How does this
differ from DNA R1b1b2? The variable is between the a and b of the DNA.
This is exciting as it may give me a much needed clue on Reuben Carson who
died in TN and is buried in the family plot in the Nashville City Cemetery,
TN.

I thought I'd reply here about YDNA testing. That has helped sort out some
Carson paternal lines (including mine). The key is finding a living Carson
male from the line to do the test.
On a related note, the YDNA results of a male descendant of Robert Carson
born 1762 Cumberland PA died 1854 Pike OH (son of David Carson and Elizabeth
Beatty of Chester Co PA) matches some other Carson lines, indicating a high
probability of a common ancestor around the 1700s or just prior. These
matching lines:
Moses Carson 1737 Lancaster PA - 1821 Washington TN (wife Elizabeth Hannah,
children James, Robert, Andrew, Margaret, Lemuel, Moses W, Hannah Rebecca,
William)
Robert Carson 1720/30 Lancaster PA - after 1798 TN or NC (wife Margaret
Woods, children John, Robert, William, Mary, Elizabeth, David, Margaret)
John Carson b1747 Ireland arrived Chester SC 1768 d Nov 1824 Hardin KY (wife
Elizabeth, children Elizabeth, Mary, James, Jane, John, Ellen, Female;
related to an Alexander Carson of Greene KY)
Robert Carson b.1716 Ireland d.1796 Chester PA (wife Rachel, children Jane,
David Carson who married Elizabeth Beatty, Mary, Lydia, Rachel)
William Carson 1720 Ireland-1791 Fayette Co PA (exact match on 12 markers -
needs an upgrade to see if still close at 37 or higher)
Thomas Carson 1740 Ire or Scotland-1816 Washington PA, a fairly close match
(wife Mary Smith m. in DE, children James, Margaret, Thomas G, Mary,
Elizabeth, William, Joseph, Sarah, Lydia, Rebecca, John Clarkson, ).
The following Carson lines have an apparent family link to the Lancaster PA
listed abov e:
John Carson b1730s PA - d after 1790 Orange NC? (wife Marinda, parents of
John English Carson who married Margaret Hunter, d Franklin GA)
James Carson c1745 PA probably - 1806 Orange NC (wife Mary LNU, parents of
Robert A. Carson m. Rebecca Clark, David Carson, Rachel Carson m William
Clark, Jenney Carson m Jesse C. Clark)
These Carson families migrated to NC and TN with the Lancaster PA group.
David Carson c1730s of Lancaster PA -c1811 Washington TN (wife Sarah Woods,
second wife probably Hannah LNU, father of Margaret, Mary, David, Robert)
William Carson c1730s of Lancaster PA-1790 Washington TN (wife Margaret
McCord, children William, David, Robert, Jennet, Mary, John)
Thanks,
Gary Carson

Gary, the DNA testing has helped me pin down some things so I really
appreciate you pointing me that way several years ago. Judy, how did you
find the Beatty/Beaty/Baty names connected to your testing? I also had my
brother do the test. I get confused on all the different pages related to
the Carson DNA project and the Ysearch. My family's male DNA is R1b1b2.
Like Gary, I wish we could connect the dots to his family line. He and I go
back to the 8th generation or so.
