Folks,
I have just done some searching through the 1851 and 1841 censuses
for my GARGAN forebears. While I did not find them in 1851 (at least
not where I expected them to be), I did have luck with the 1841
search.
I find Thomas GERRIGAN age 26?, born in Ireland, with his wife,
Isabella (I already know from other sources that she's a CARSON), age
26?, born in Kirkcudbrightshire per the census, living in Girthon at
what seems to read Covengarden. Three of their children are already
listed: John, Margaret, and Thomas (my gg-grandfather).
I am trying to place this Isabella among the various CARSON's in
the area. Living in the same house/building it would seem are some
other CARSON's:
1. a Samuel, age 62, a lower?, born in KKDshire, a Jane, age 37,
relationship not specified, also born in KKDshire, a John Murray, age
14, mariner's apprentice, and a William McGown, age 11.
2. an Arbella, age 45, a washer, born in KKDshire (I'm pretty sure
of this first name, especially comparing the writing to the
"Isabella" that appears a few lines afterwards in the census).
Would any of these -- Samuel, Jane, or Arbella -- ring a bell for
anyone?
Since I'm suspecting that trying to find the connection back to
Ireland for GARGAN/GERRIGAN will be frustrating, I'm going to
concentrate on following the CARSON line for a while. My thanks in
advance.
Hugh
