This is an update on George Carson since I wrote the list last week.
I need to double check my census data. The 1820 and 1830 information I have
is from a printed book on the census. The 1830 is certainly not good. My
1840 census data from a microfilm I looked at several years back, but I need
to double check it as well. Here in New Mexico I don't have easy access to
any of that information. I'm going to send off for the 1830 census this
week. That should confirm a couple of things for me. Main thing is I hope
it says George Carson is age 50/60.
I did go to the El Paso Public Library yesterday. They had several helpful
books, but almost no census information. They had several books by E. Russ
Williams, JR on Marion Co, MS and Pike Co, MS.
One intersting item was the 1843 tax list for Pike Co, MS. It listed John W.
Carson and Samuel Carson. George Carson was in the 1840 census of Pike Co,
MS w/ 2 other males (approximately the correct age of John and Samuel).
I also found reference to an obituary appearing in the Macon Herald 28 Aug
1841 for George Carson age 54 of Baltimore who died in Warsaw. I wrote down
that Warsaw was in Sumpter Co, MS; but when I got back home found there was
no Sumpter Co, MS. It might have been Sumner Co, MS; which became Webster
Co, MS in 1882. This person was preparing to start a mercantile business and
was born in Ireland and was Presbyterian. I do not think this is the same
George Carson, who was in Pike Co, MS in 1840; although the time of death is
pretty close.
Here is what I'm thinking at the moment on this line:
George Carson b.1770/1775; m.(1) _______ _________. They had:
John Wilson Carson b.19 Sep 1796, SC; m. Caroline Matilda FOIL.
George Carson m.(2) Elisabeth ______ b.1782. They had:
______ Carson (female) b.1804/1810
______ Carson (female) b.1804/1810
Mary Carson b.1817, Marion Co, MS; m. abt 1844 William H. ARD b.1810,
GA
______ Carson (male) b.1810/1820
______ Carson (male) b.1810/1820
Samuel R. Carson b.1824, MS; m. abt 1840 Evaline Blackwell b.1825, KY
My Elbert Hillard Carson b.1854, MS is the son of Samuel R. Carson.
Also I think George Carson is the brother of John Carson, SR; who is 1820
census of Lawrence Co, MS. There is court record in 1829 in Marion Co, MS
where George Carson, John Carson SR and Fleming Tynes apraise the property of
Jesse Croft.
That's my best guess on the family at the moment.
Does anyone have anything that would confirm or disprove anything that I've
written. Any ideas on the father of George Carson b.1770/1775 and John
Carson SR b.1780, SC?
After I get the 1830 census, I'll write all this information in an organized
manner for you to put in the Carson Cousins.
