My Carson ancestor was Mary Carson b ca 1783. Here's the minimal facts I
have about her:
From "The Indiana Countian" and their series SETTLERS FROM YORK COUNTY -- the
wives of George Bratton are given as first, Mary Carson (1783 - 1825);
second, Elizabeth ________ who died in 1856.
Info in her husband George Bratton: he born in 1776, a son of William
Bratton and raised in Newberry Twp., York Co PA. He was last known in York Co up to
ca 1795. He and his wife and kids were settled in Plum Twp., Allegheny Co PA
ca 1807.
The children of George Bratton and Mary Carson were Jane b 1802, William b
1804, James ca 1805, Sarah 1807 and 2 unk sons b 1820 and 1825. Mary died in
1825, probably at the birth of their last child.
IF they went via the typical naming pattern, the first daughter Jane was
named after Mary's mother; the first son William was named for George's father
[which is true], the second son James was named for Mary's father; and the second
daughter Sarah was named for George's mother. It is an IF.
There were Quaker Carson's in York County -- mostly Quakers there -- though
the Brattons who lived there were not Quakers. George and his brother Paris
moved to western PA sometime between 1795 and 1800. I don't know if George
married Mary Carson in his home town of Newberry -- or if he found her in western
PA. There were Carsons in Butler County near where his older brother Paris
met and married Hannah Pierce in 1800. Maybe that's where Mary Carson came
from too.
Okay ...... does anybody have a clue about a Mary Carson who was born ca 1783
in Pennsylvania?
Thanks for any thoughts on this.
