Sentences of one year and six months, respectively, were meted out in Dufferin County
Police Court by Magistrate William Woodliffe last Thursday to Thomas Carson, 35, and Henry
Pressick, 17, both Melancthon Township residents, after they pleaded guilty to stealing a
cow from Herb Corbett. They were apprehended while driving to Barrie from Stayner by
Traffic Officer Fred Kirk, of Shelburne, and Provincial officer W. M. Peters, of Elmvale.
The carcass, neatly cut up and ready for sale, was in the back seat of their car.
"Cattle stealing is the greatest problem with which we have to cope in Dufferin
County," said Crown Attorney David Evans.
