Hi Judy,
That's great that your Carson brother is doing the YDNA test. I'm glad I did it
several years ago because I was able to stop "barking up the wrong
tree".....i.e., wasting time researching Carson lineages whose YDNA is not at all
similar to mine.
Just a few matches can open up things. For example, I matched two descendants of Moses
Carson born 1737, a presumed brother of my Robert Carson ancestor born c1730 based on them
migrating from PA to NC together, "proved" that link (as much as it can be
proved). Other close YDNA matches included descendants of John Carson born 1747 who came
directly to Chester Co SC from Ireland 1767, William Carson born c1720 Ireland who came to
Fayette Co PA, William Stewart Carson who was in Rowan Co NC, Robert Carson born 1717 died
1790s Chester PA (only son David, grandson Robert Carson moved to OH), and some others.
These matches in turn link me via paper trail indicators several other Carson lines in PC,
NC, SC, KY.
