The OH DAR record above is probably in error. Nelson's "History of Cincinnati and
Hamilton Co., Ohio" Page 890 (see entire text in preceding message on Ancestry), does
not say anything about the Revolutionary War soldier, William Carson; nor does it give the
parentage of the William J. Carson who married Margaret Terry.
In "Official Roster III: Soldiers of the American Revolution Who Lived in the State
of Ohio," Mrs Earle Johnson was one of the compilers of the book. Her name appears
hundreds of times throughout the book, so in all probability, she was not related to
either William Carson or William J. Carson.
At least two researchers believe that William Jewel Carson (who married Margaret Terry)
was the son of Enoch Carson and Achsah Disbrow. See the following two links.

Note that in Volume 1 of the series, "The Official Roster of the Soldier of the
American Revolution Buried in the State of Ohio", published 1929 by the Daughters of
the American Revolution of Ohio, there is an earlier entry for William Carson:
CARSON, WILLIAM (Ross Co.)
Br 1745, Mar Isabella Gilmore. Children: Hugh Carson (1782-1847), William Carson
(1788-1840). D 1829 Chillicothe, O. Bur Grandview, Chillicothe, O. MI: "William

In the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) database in the NSDAR
Library, Washington DC, there are several DAR membership applications based on the
Revolutionary War service of the William Carson who married Isabella Gillmore. The
application of Viola Walker Scott mentions that the Rev. War veteran, Wm. Carson did have
a son named William.
An application by Mr. Maffett refers to the book: "Descendents of William Carson, A
Revolutionary Patriot Who Survived Valley Forge with Related Berggren, Johnson, Lee,
Miller, Patton, Scott and Thompson Lines" by Beatrice Carson. published ca. 1964.
Page "X" of this book states lists the children of William Carson and Isabella
Gillmore as:
A. Samuel Carson (03 FEB 1773 - 25 DEC 1834) m. 1801, Abigail Black (02 MAR 1783 - 22
MAR 1838)

H. James Carson (06 AUG 1796 - 11 SEP 1854) m. 1826, Calista Stephenson (APR 1808 - 28

Page "C-1" of Beatrice Carson's book also lists the children of William
Carson, Jr., (born 04 JUL 1776 died 30 SEP 1846) and Margaret as:

NSDAR records show that neither William Carson, nor his wife, Isabella Gilmore, his
children, or his heirs, filed for a pension based on his service.
This is the only information I have on this family. I am not related to these Carson
lines. While researching my own Carson line in southern Indiana and Ohio, I ran across
the apparent discrepancy in the records and contacted Joellen Fone who has brought the
question into open debate on Ancestry World Tree. Joellen apparently has no further
information either. She wrote to me, "I don't know any information for sure
about William Jewel Carson, other than what I found online."
