Ellie,
That's a great question! The existence of Alexander Harvey Carson 1650-1718
is based on records that, so far, nobody has been able to produce or prove
to me or any other researcher I've contacted. It seems that name got created
and posted some time ago, then numerous family trees tied to him without
knowing where he came from. Most postings I've seen are based on prior postings
that had no source data to support them.
One researcher tried to locate the origin of that Alexander Harvey Carson
"ancestor" and found that researcher in Arizona and contacted him. That source
researcher who originated that name never replied, according to the person
inquiring. I've never seen any documentation of the existence of an Alexander
Harvey Carson or his spouse, yet dozens of online family trees connect to
him and his wife, apparently based on an online family tree that was posted
some time ago but has never been proven. Part of the issue seems to be that
many want to be related to Kit Carson, so they force their family trees to fit
into that tree with no documentation.
Part of the problem I've noted is that many Carson researchers see those
"official" Carson family trees online and presume those trees are accurate and
use that data in their own family trees. Yet, many of those initial Carson
family trees (with Alexander Harvey Carson) have no data to support them.
The earliest Alexander Carson names I've found (prior to 1790) appeared in
Lancaster PA, Fayette PA, York PA, Philadelphia PA, Orange NC, Rowan NC,
Iredell NC, Burke NC and Chester SC. The Carson lines in Lancaster PA, Orange NC,
Rowan NC, Iredell NC, Burke NC and Chester SC may connect, based on
circumstantial findings to date. I speculate that many of these latter Carson lines
connect to a common ancestor, yet nothing is provable.
This is a challenge, to say the least!

Does anyone have information on Alexander Harvey Carson 1650-1718.
My information shows him being born and dying in Ireland. He was married to
Margaret Jane McClinton Wilson.
He was the father of John Carson 1680-1762 who married Sarah Dickey. He
also lived in Ireland.
John was the father of Willliam Carson who married Eleanor McDuff and died
in Iredell Co, NC.
Our lines go back to William.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ellie Carson
