It would be very helpful if you can do the YDNA test (as a male with surname Carson). The
I haplogroup is predominant in the Carson lineages that came from SE Pennsylvania to
western NC 1750s-1790s and also eastern TN. The I haplogroup Carson participants had
Carson paternal ancestors who at various times were in Orange, Rowan, Caswell, Guilford,
Surry, Iredell, Buncombe (Henderson area), Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Lincoln and
Macklenburg counties.
The descendant of John Hazzard Carson of Burke Co NC descendant is the only R haplogroup
result in that area.
Two other participants with R results, one of whose ancestors were in western NC, think
they both descend from the same Carson ancestor who was in SE PA 1760s. However, their
results show them to not be related paternally. They also don't match the Burke NC
results enough to be related.
