Be sure you pay a little more and get AT LEAST the 37 marker test. We Carsons are so
plentiful that if you just do the cheapest 12 marker test, you will get so many 'Exact
matches" that you will be misled about who you are really related to directly. My
brother had the 37 marker test, but it also gives you results for the 12 and the 25
markers. At just 12 markers, my brother had 999 (yes, exactly) Exact matches to his Y-DNA
results. But when we looked at the 25 markers, there wasn't even 1 exact match to his
Y-DNA results...in fact, by 25 markers, we only had 1 Carson that was just 1
"step" away (one marker different) and at 37 markers we still had the same
person at 1 step away, and one person each at 2 steps, 3 steps and 4 steps. So by the time
you get to 67 markers, you really get a good idea of who might be in the same direct line
to your family. Thanks, Gary, for posting the Y-DNA chart with the tested Carson males. Do
you know why the R1b1a2 Haplogroup is listed as "un!
grouped"....do we need more matches in the family trees to put some of us in
specific groups?
