Hello,
Although I have not yet had my DNA test done - can't seem to get my father
to stop procrastinating about it - I do have documentation that my family
are lowland Scots of Ayrshire, who came from Ireland in 1801.
It is assumed that they are from Northern Ireland. They were Presbyterians
whose descendents belonged to the Orange lodge.
When I spoke to the people at the LDS family history center in my area about
further research to find out where they came from in Ireland, the LDS
volunteers laughed and said "Good luck". Without any detailed information,
they said I would have to go through every individual parish in all of
Northern Ireland by hand and read all of the records looking for mine.
Sooooo....no further progress in that direction. Does anyone have any more
encouraging suggestions? Below are the pertinent ancestors:
Robert Carson, born in Ireland, married Mary Neil, presumably in Ireland.
He was linen weaver. They were living on Sandbed Street in Kilmarnock when
their son John Carson was born in 1803.
John had two wives: 1) Christine (Christina) Miller (Millar), who he
married in 1827. and 2) Agnes McJanet, who he married in 1837, Christina
having died in 1836.
I have much more information if anyone recognizes these people. John and
all his descendents were coal miners.
I would appreciate any help that would enable me to go back further. Thank
you.
Elaine

The Carson lineages in the I haplogroup (and some closely related
surnames)
originated mostly in lowland areas of Scotland such as Wigtonshire,
Kirkcudbrightshire, Dumfrieshire, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire,
Dumbartonshire, Argyle and nearby. This is according to a study on the
Carson and other surnames that match closely in the YDNA results.
About half the Carson lines in the US who have done YDNA tests are in the
I
haplogroup (a haplogroup that is connected to Scandinavian, Norseman,
Viking
and other Nordic groups). The other Carson participants (other half)
are
in
the R haplogroup, which is western European (a groupt that includes
many
Celtic lineages).
The actual surname itself could have originated from multiple sources from
what I've seen.
