Hi Betty,
I've come across evidence that it was John Cantzon (Jean Charles Cantzon) who married
Sarah Dickey (dtr of Moses Dickey) 1 Aug 1761 in Lancaster PA. After John died in SC,
Sarah reportedly married a Dr. Daniel Harper. In Harper's 1791 will in SC (Chester or
Lancaster Co), a researcher indicates he mentions stepchildren Moses, John, Dorcas and
Mary. However, the last name was Cantzon. A Moses Canson is in the 1790 Chester SC
census. In 1800, Moses Cantzon 26-45 is living in Lancaster Dist SC near Widow Harper and
a Robert Harper. A Moses Dicky 26-45 is in the county also. Moses Cantzon was born 1765
and John Cantzon was born 1765 per online trees.
It seems that it was not a John Carson who married Sarah Dickey in PA 1761. Somehow, that
assumption spread into numerous family trees. It will likely never get corrected.
However, there also seems to be a real John Carson - Sarah Dickey marrying back around
1700 in Ireland. This is the "Alexander Harvey Carson" line.
My Carson line came out of Lancaster PA, an came to NC (Orange, Caswell, Rutherford, and
probably Rowan/Iredell) in the 1770s. Then they went to Washington/Greene TN. They also
connect to Joseph Carson dec'd 1790 Abbeville SC Carsons and to a John Carson in
Chester SC 1780s who moved to Hardin KY.
Gary
