G'day yourself! The problem is that there was no
state named Arizona in 1873, only an AZ
territory. AZ became a state in 1912, so
Arizonans would not appear in the regular US
censuses of the states until 1920. There were
some territorial censuses but they are usually in
separate files (not in Heritage Quest or Family
Search census searches, e.g.). I don't know
which censuses, if any, exist for the AZ
territory. The date of your ancestor's arrival
in Australia would probably not appear in any US
records either but it should be known to
Australian officialdom (assuming they kept
records as well as the British did.) I wish you
well in your search and hope someone can come up
with some old AZ information for you.
Good luck!
Chilly? In Australia?

G'day
I am seeking the help of some kind person to
avail themselves to look for
Carsons in Arizona.
James Robert Carson and Mary Elizabeth Egan
came from Ireland to Maricopia
County Arizona where they had a son James
Robert Carson abt 1873.
He came to Australia where I have records of
a) his marriage 1913 to
Margaret Johnson and b) the birth of their
twin girls 1913.
As yet I have not got when he arrived in
Australia.
I have written to many Govt. departments in USA
seeking records, but nothing
has been found.
Thankyou for the help,
Cheers, Jane (in chilly Pakenham, Victoria)
