Dear Carson/VA Roots Researchers:
I'm the listowner for the CURRY surname list and have been doing a good
deal of research in early VA in Augusta, Rockingham Counties. In
particular, I'm interested in a gentleman named Isaac CORSON or CARSON
(difficult to read the old handrwiting) who appears on several deeds
selling land in Augusta Co. about 1765.
Among others, he sold land to my James BLAIR who in turn sold a plot of
land on Naked Creek to my 5X grandfather Samuel CURRY in Augusta Co. Later,
Samuel sold part of that land to Robert YOUNG.
I've traced several of Samuel's children to Hancock Co. IN in by 1824, in
particular, Isaac CURRY who becomes one of the founders of Curry's Chapel.
What I noticed is that there are LOTS of CARSON's in Hancock Co. IN as
well. Has anyone traced their Carson/Corsons from IN to Augusta Co. VA?
I believe these piorneers stuck together. They went from VA to WVA and KY,
IN, OH and onward to the west. Several of Samuel's children emmigrated from
Augusta Co. to Greenbriar/Monroe Co. VA around the turn of the century. Two
of other brothers, Samuel and William headed to where Isaac founded the
church.
Here are other names that figure prominent in this area:
BLAIR, SEAWRIGHT, YOUNG, LEEPER, MCGRUDER, NICHOLS, ELLISON, and others.
I'd appreciate any information that you might have!
aloha,
kevin curry
